Yesterday, there were road blocks at many places of our highways in Peninsula Malaysia, especially the southern and central regions. Ya, Malaysia is so efficient in the utilization of police forces, and you can see neatly queued vehicles (wow.. so courteous, drivers dare not simply abuse the emergency lane also) at the highway speed lane. Friends, it was Sunday, the day when many people were traveling back from home sweet home to Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya for work.
This morning, if you’re working in KL or PJ, and if were driving to work, then congratulation, you have contributed in boosting national economic growth by consuming more fuel. Congratulation again, you have helped to prove that our police forces are efficient in conducting road block!
Why all these masses? Simply because BN “thought” there will be a crowd of protestors heading to parliament today for no-confidence motion against PM
End up, who were creating problems in busy metropolitan city this morning? I’m sure a lot of drivers and motorists were swearing all the way in the traffic, especially those who were rushing for important appointment.
Dear BN government, could you please focus your attention in the hot-like-frying-pan issues resulted from fuel price hike aftermaths which are troubling the average Malaysians? Defend as you like, as if majority of Malaysians are enjoying sufficient spending power to comfortably greet and welcome the financial burdens introduced to us after the recent fuel price hike.
One thing for sure, we have already seen prices of many consumer products and day-to-day needs being inflated substantially in recent month. We have read enough news on many double-digit percentage figures on the price increase of this and that. When all these inflated prices are adding up, it will make a HUGE difference in our already-very-poor spending power.
According to statistics published by Bank Negara, Malaysia’s CPI (Consumer Price Index) for May 2008 (PDF) is 9.1 points, an increase of 2 percents comparing to Dec 2007. Please note that, this is the CPI for May, which is before the fuel price hike. I don’t want to imagine the CPI for Jul and Jun of this year!!
I’m an IT person, economical statistics are not my cup of tea. But, at least I still know the direct relationship of CPI on inflation rate la.
If CPI is getting higher and yet Malaysians earning power stays the same, then the market will witness shrinking spending patterns. At the same time, Bank Negara might also look into revising the BLR (Basic Loan Rate) due to financial pressures, or the banking institutions will be suffering.
If a non-economy person like me can elaborate a little bit of the foreseen economical impact as described above, I don’t see why BN couldn’t understand it. Or are they not feeling the burdens?
So our ministers are experiencing allowance-cut to prove that they are also suffering degraded quality of lifestyle along with the average Malaysians? Please remember, we have many low-income families suffering in their day-to-day life to support a proper 3-meal-day for all their family dependents.
