要财非裁的己丑新春

To my English-ed readers, sorry but I’ve decided to write this Chinese New Year post in Chinese language :)

也许,是时候back to basic了吧。

First Time Seeing Membership Card with Rewritable Visual Info

Everytime my brother comes back from Singapore, you know what I like to do??? Dig his bag :p Being a fashionable guy, his bag is always quite interesting - new clothes, or some very useful yet cheap goodies.

This time, he has a new Esprit bag again (yes, again~~) for me to examine.

Stack of membership cards

This card holder, with 15 plastic envelopes, was bought at SGD4. Each piece of the plastic envelope is of good quality and design too - the design allows every card to be easily pulled out from the envelopes.

Within the stack of membership cards with various popular brands, an ordinary looking card caught my attention. This is the Singapore Fashion Fast Forward (F3) membership card.

Singapore Fashion Fast Forward membership card

At first glance, nothing really too special. However, take a closer look at the information printed on the foil, and I started having a question.

Are the “points this visit” and “total points” printed with real figures? Which means, visual information on this foil is updated on every swipe??

Apparently, yes, the foil is made with rewritable thermal recording material, called Hot Foil Stamping technology, which allows visual information to be updated for as much as 500 times. hm… interesting… quite a cool membership card ;)

Which Levi’s Jeans suits You?

Been telling myself to buy a new jeans, as I’ve not been buying one for years. And yes, this task was marked as “accomplished” this afternoon, bringing home a Levi’s Red Tab 505, with an additional RM249 in my upcoming credit card bill.

Out of so many varieties from the outlet, ranging from 501 to 505, 512, 550 and bla bla bla, I’ve picked a 505 (tight fit) and a 550 (relaxed fit). But, I’m just not standard-size enough la… relaxed fit doesn’t really look fitted on me haha, too loose for my liking. Very obviously, 505 is a lot better on me.

However, the tight fit is not labeled so for nothing. When I put on my typical size, W31, it was so fitted that I can’t even conveniently put in my SE P1 and wallet. So, tried an inch larger, and finally I satisfyingly settled for W32.

What Levi Thinks I Should Wear?

Fits suggested by whatsmylevis.com

Just out of curiosity, I went to whatsmylevis.com. This is a site solely dedicated to Levi’s fit guide. Simply put in some general information about yourself, and most importantly, your gender and vital stats - chest, waist & hips. Then, you will be presented with your body type, following by suggested fits.

Haha.. I was trying to find out what suits me best, and yet I’ve already bought :p

My body type is described as “lean and mean“:

With long arms, legs and torso, your trim shape means you can carry off those skinny jeans really well - good on you, because these are definitely the “it” jeans everyone wants to wear!

And…. dang dang dang dang~~~ I’ve got suggestion for Levi’s Red Tab 505 luxury heritage jeans. Bingo! I’ve bought an ideal one :p

The First and Most Personalized CNY Greeting

CNY Greeting

As shown above, are 2 small notes of 28 Chinese words. I’m very surprise, and at the same time happy to receive this personalized Chinese New Year greeting.

The uniqueness is, the first row of each note begins with my Chinese name - 鈿順

Thanks for the greeting :)

I’m now a millionaire

I’m now a millionaire, for the second time, in Indonesian Rupiah :p

1 million Rupiah

I’m flying to Jakarta on tomorrow for work. Will be back on Thursday evening. My millionaire status will not last long, most probably will be invalidated by tomorrow’s evening hahaha.

Expectation

Ability to manage the right expectation with project stakeholder throughout project life cycle, contributes to a huge portion of project success factors. Even though it’s always better to promise less, but in reality, sometime we just got to promise more to look good, especially for commercial reasons. At times, the bare truth just doesn’t sound convincing.

When I’m checking mails this morning, spotted the following phrase from an email from project partner.

“Anyway Tien-Soon is very efficient. He only takes about half-day to up the system and never fail to do so until now!”

Leaving with little choice, I just got to get the system remotely deployed in shorter-than-expected time frame. For a second, this compliment is undeniably a cheering one. However, I hope this will not turn into a new benchmark in expectation ;)

My House Renovation Quoted at RM87,555

After a few weekends of choosing the tiles, doors and some other necessities, I have finally got the first quotation for my house renovation.

Item Description Amount (RM)
1. To extend kitchen and store 33,100
2. To remove existing tiling to bathroom and reinstall with new floor tiles and wall tiles 8,500
3. Laminated flooring to bedroom 4,000
4. Tiling to living and dining 5,500
5. Timber door and window (not including door leaf) 7,600
6. Porch and fencing 14,500
7. Wiring 2,355
8. Painting 12,000
87,555

Wah lao eh… @-) RM87,555!! So much cash needed, totally out of our budget. aaahi~~

FYI, this is the draft of floor plan of my house. Quite shiok to have 3265.98 square feet, but, at the same time proportionally adding as much pain as well for renovation.

Draft of floor plan for my house

Had this conversation with the contractor, Pang.

Pang: wah.. the tiles you have chosen, not cheap ha. It’s more expensive that laminated flooring.
Me: ha? is it a… then the one I chosen, above normal price a?
Pang: there’s nothing called normal price la.. but yours is more expensive than average tiles, more expensive than laminated flooring if calculated by square feet.
Me: :|

This is what Hokkien people say “eating rice but don’t know the price of rice” (吃米不知米賈).

This quote, even though already over-budget, but still lacking of about 10% of my initial requirements. Money not enough a~~

Actually, since this is a second-hand house, the efforts to remove existing components, such as all the tiles (before installing new tiles), is already costing quite a bit of manpower charge. From the quotation, obviously the extension of wet kitchen is costing the biggest sum. So, told the contractor to revise quote on that portion, with a much simpler wet kitchen :P

Money money money, I need more cash in fact.

The Feeling Strikes Me Again, This Time Nikon D90

Last time before owning my very first smart phone, I was drooling over it for more than 2 years. It was a kind of “I want it badly” feeling, a feeling that I know if I own a smart phone one day, I’ll love it very very very much, and I’ll feel very very satisfied.

Aaahi~~ people who can afford to own anything easily will not understand this complicated feeling one la hehe.

Then, when I saw the sneak pic of Sony Ericsson P1i, I knew that is the first smart phone that will make me feel very contented. Waited about 6 months for its release, and yes, I finally got my very first smart phone – SE P1i. Now, I’m already been loving my P1i for a year.

Already for some time, that I wish to upgrade my Lumix FZ30 to a middle range DSLR. I wish to have a DSLR which has solid body build (I really don’t mind the weight, but I do mind about the plastic feeling :p), good ergonomic design, LCD live view, tracking AF (preferably) and satisfying picture quality at ISO1200 (at least).

If I must buy (yes if I must) a DSLR now, then I will go for Canon 40D. Actually, I like Nikon D80, but it doesn’t have LCD live view and dust removal system. Ya, as I just said, I will only buy Canon 40D if I have no choice but to get a DSLR immediately now.

Which means, hehe… within my budget constraint, 40D is still not really my dream DSLR yet lo :) It doesn’t give me the feeling I had for Sony Ericsson P1i.

The Feeling Strikes Me Once Again

Recently, the feeling strikes me once again! In the recent 2 weeks, I keep on googling for Nikon D90 (not a good sign). The moment I read the first leak-words article on Nikon D90, I started to develop a kind of “I really want it!” feeling, very similar to the feeling I had for P1i. Keys of My New House

Keys of My New House

Wohoho…. finally, my gf has received the house keys on Friday, not directly from the landlord or agent, but our legal matters stackholder - Yap Koon Roy & Associates.

These keys are different, as they cost us a lot hahaha. However, 6 months down the road, I’m sure this set of keys will be totally replaced when renovation work is completed :p

So, what’s the first thing to be done le??

  • draft the renovation work? wrong
  • re-activate the water and power utility account? wrong
  • take a picture of the house before renovation? still wrong

aiyo… of course try to open to house with these keys la hahaha :p

I need to get someone to cut the grass. Then, measure the whole house and digitize the floor plan with Microsoft Visio (or any other better and yet not complicated tool?)

Almost Legally Owned the House

My girlfriend told me this morning, that the stamp duty is processed, and the sales & purchase agreement is also sealed by seller through our individual lawyers. For a moment, I was very happy. ‘Cos it means that we almost legally own the house already, as far as legal processing and matters are concerned. FYI, the legal processes started in early May.

Why do I say “almost”?? hehe.. ‘cos the house is not yet paid!

So, for the next second, the joyous feel is overwritten by money matters haha. The journey of digging out substantial amount of cash has officially begun. House renovation is the most painful part.

Now, the first party to pay is lawyer - RM3175, for all the legal services.
